Top questions and solutions

I got an error during the update. How do I update the program?

If you get an error while updating, please follow these steps:

This will successfully update the terminal.

Error: "Disconnected. Reconnecting to localhost:4242". What should I do?

This error can occur for a number of reasons:

  • You are using an outdated version of Windows (7 or older) that is not supported. Update your operating system.
  • Graphics card drivers and .NET libraries are out of date - install the latest versions.
  • Windows system metrics may be disabled due to third-party optimisers or custom builds (see instructions for enabling them).
  • The core token is entered incorrectly (check for extra spaces).
  • Make sure that the path to the MoonTrader folder does not contain incorrect characters or symbols. If it does, rename the folder.
  • Check and disable the "Withdraw funds" option in the API key settings.
  • On Mac with M1/M2 processors, local core operation is not possible.
  • Add MoonTrader to the Windows Firewall exceptions or temporarily disable the firewall.
  • Update your terminal to the latest version.

The terminal loads but the chart, balances and parts of the interface are missing or greyed out

The most common reason for this problem is the API key configuration:

  • Check the server/PC IP address in the API keys.
  • Check that the API keys are valid and entered correctly (no extra spaces).
  • Check that all necessary permissions are enabled in the API keys (trading on the required market: Spot/Futures, but without withdrawal rights).

If the API key settings are correct, check the mode set on your exchange account:

How do I activate historical chart data?

The chart history display is enabled in the terminal settings with the Market Data Archive option.

  • In Local Mode, the chart is only saved while the core and market saver algorithms are running.
  • In Cloud Mode, charts are downloaded from the Moontrader servers (available for Binance).

Important: Local saving may increase the load on the core. Running multiple instances of Market Saver at the same time is not recommended.

Where can I find core logs?

To view logs:

  • Stop the core.
  • Locate the data/logs/core folder. The latest log is a .txt file with your profile name and date.
  • On Linux, logs are found at: ~/.config/Moontrader-data/data/logs/core/.

How do I change API keys or a licence in an already configured Core?

To change API keys or a license:

  • Delete the default.profile file in the data folder on the server.
  • On Linux, delete it with:
    rm ~/.config/Moontrader-data/data/default.profile
  • Reconfigure the core.

The client does not connect to the Core. What's the reason?

  • Check that the UDP4242 port is open in the server OS and VPS settings (AWS, Google, etc).
  • Make sure that the client token in the profile and the core match (without extra spaces).
  • Allow Moontrader through Windows Firewall.

Can I run two Moontrader cores on the same PC/server?

It depends on the operating system. On Linux, running multiple cores is not recommended. On Windows you can run two cores at the same time:

  • Install them in different folders.
  • Assign different ports (e.g. Core 1 - UDP4242, Core 2 - UDP4243).

Important to know: Running two cores requires high system performance. A server with a 2/2 configuration may not be sufficient for stable operation.

The deal closed with a profit on the chart, but the report shows a loss - why?

Possible reasons:

  • BNB tokens are not being used to pay exchange fees, or the BNB balance is insufficient.
  • An iceberg order is being used, but it is only enabled for one side (TP or new orders).

I paid for the wrong licence - what should I do?

Sign in to your Moontrader account. Select the purchased plan, click Change Type and change the licence back to Free. The money will be refunded to your account so you can buy the right plan.

What should I do if there are no transaction reports?

Make sure that the path to the Moontrader folder does not contain Cyrillic characters or other incorrect symbols.

  • On Ubuntu, install the necessary libraries:

apt install libncurses5 libtommath1

ln -s libtommath.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libtommath.so.0

Can I move the core and algorithms to another server?

To transfer algorithms, copy the algorithm.config file from the data/your_profile folder to the new server.

To transfer the entire core, copy the profile folder along with these two files: default.profile and licence file (e.g. 1234567.aes). Don't forget to add the new server IP to the API settings.

Bot Client: how to install and run it on Linux?

Bot Client is a separate application that allows you to manage orders, Moontrader algorithms and more remotely via Telegram.

Bot Client is installed with the Core and can be launched with the following command:

cd moontrader/BotClient

./BotClient

Will the 25% discount for paying fees with BNB tokens apply if I already have a 20% discount from Moontrader?

Yes, all discounts and bonuses offered by the exchange remain valid. When paying with BNB, Binance offers:

  • 25% discount on spot and margin trading fees.
  • 10% discount on futures trading fees.

However, the discounts are applied one by one and not directly combined:

  1. First, the 20% Moontrader Bonus Program discount is deducted from the fee amount.
  2. Then the BNB rebate is applied to the remaining fee.
  • Example of calculation for a spot trading fee: (10 - 20%) - 25% = 6
